1. finish Theme for English B Poetry Analysis

We finished where we left off yesterday and I explained the two options for the response poem that is homework.

2. Crucible Background Notes

This powerpoint presentation covered info. on Arthur Miller and what motivated him to write the play.

3. begin reading The Crucible

We only got to the first few pages (1172-1174ish) in class.

Due tomorrow: either I Hear Grossmont Singing OR America, I am response poem on the back of the Poetry Analysis handout (written on a separate sheet of paper for EC)

1. Finish Letter of Introduction

Students had about 15 minutes to finish their letter from yesterday and decorate their journal.

2. read America & Americans

3. Journal 2: America & Americans response

Students wrote a paragraph on one of Steinbeck’s characteristics of Americans, using at least two quotations from the essay for support and explaining their own point of view in their commentary.

1. Online Resources Overview

All classes (except 6th period who had to start tomorrow’s assignment) completed this overview of important online tools.

2. Letter of Introduction

Most classes (except 6th period) only had time to start this first journal entry.  While it’s homework for 6th period students who didn’t finish it in class, all other classes will have about 10 minutes tomorrow to finish up.

1. Index Cards

Students filled out index cards I will be using to keep track of their participation.

2. Class Policies

We spent the majority of the class period reading through the syllabus to make sure everyone is on the same page when it comes to my expectations.

3. Four Corners

This was a fun, ice breaker type activity familiarizing students with each other and the classroom.

4. Class Scenario Rules

Students came up with class rules based on scenarios that have occurred in my class in previous years.

Using at least 6 of this week’s words, pretend you are a journalist writing an article covering Bob Ewell’s attack and death.

Students had the last ten minutes to work on copying the rest of the quotations for their essay.
